IBooks delete to Remove PDF downloads not working

Both Ipad & Iphone have PDF’s downloaded that when I try to delete from downloads to device ….nothing happens.

Meaning the cloud appears but then immediately refreshes and is no longer visible. So I am assuming that means download to device has not been removed.

I am doing this because my backups have gotten very large as PDF’s are showing downloaded on both devices. I don’t know how that happened but regardless…can’t seem to remove them.

I still want the PDF’s to be in Icloud but not downloaded until I need to review PDF.

what can I do to remove them?

Hi there IrishGrandma62,

You can follow these steps to remove the downloaded PDFs from your iPad:

How to delete books, audiobooks, or PDFs from your iPhone or iPad
1. Open the Books app.
2. On your iPhone, tap Library, then find the item that you want to delete. On your iPad, look under Library in the sidebar and find the item that you want to delete. If the item is part of a series, first open the series.
3. Tap Edit in the upper-right corner.
4. Tap the item, then tap the Trash icon .
5. To remove the item from your device, choose Remove Download. (If the item is a PDF or didn't come from the Book Store, you can also tap Delete Everywhere to delete it from your Library.)

Take care.

Thank you for info…I have followed those steps however problem is that I want to only delete the download…not the PDF from the cloud. When I hit remove download from cloud, it flashes, title goes away but then comes back and does not show the cloud as other items do.

In some cases PDF’s are on both Iphone & Ipad…tried removing download from one device at a time and that still didn’t result in removal from device.

any other ideas?

Read info so thanks. My question though is that the App shows I could remove downloaded item as option. See attached screenshots. 1st to show that some items do show in icloud and not downloaded to Ipad. 2nd one shows that option to remove download is provided but it doesn’t work. That is why I am asking for support. There seems to be inconsistent information re what can be done.
