Which USB adapter would I need for a 2003 Mac desktop?

I have a 2003 Mac desktop computer Mac OS 10.5.8 with usb ports that do not work with any usb cable I have. I disconnected it from the internet a long time ago, but I would like to transfer some files. Is there—and what is the name— of the usb port from that era and what kind of adapter, and what name am I looking for? Usb A or usb 1?

Thank you!

USB and a 2003 Mac Desktop Computer:

USB-A ports it what this would have. But, research the hard drive for compatibility(look on its original packaging). Some USB devices are not backwards-compatible with older versions of USB.
