Greetings NJ_Roos-53_tree,
It looks like you joined the Apple Support Communities from an excellent starting point; Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer - Apple Support. However, for the specific action you are trying to accomplish, this page may be better suited for your needs: Import photos from Mail, Safari, and other apps into Photos on Mac - Apple Support. It provides information on how you can import photos and media from emails, from texts sent using Messages, and from webpages in Safari; all on your Mac.
For importing photos from your email, you'll want to follow the steps under the section labeled "Import photos from Mail" on that page.
1. In the Mail appon your Mac, open the email message that contains the photos you want to import.
2. Do one of the following:
3. Note: If you participate in an iCloud Shared Photo Library, click the Library pop-up menu in the toolbar and choose the library to import into.
* Drag the photo from the email to the Photos window.
* Control-click the photo and choose Share > Add to Photos.
We hope this information helps you out.
Cheers!

In other words:
To move pictures from email to Photos, just click and drag the picture over to the Photos icon in you dock (or in the applications folder.) This works for pictures in Messages or on most web pages, too. They will appear in the "Imports" view in Photos.
