iPhone upgrade program

I currently have my phone with Verizon. I had the monthly credit deal where I get a $16/month credit on my $19/month phone payment. I have 14/36 payments finished

I want to sign up for the apple upgrade program (ideally today) and it’s asking for my current phone number. Will I be able to sign up if my current phone isn’t paid off with Verizon. If I can obviously I’ll have two phones until I pay off my current one then probably sell it.
