Complete removal of Sophos from computer

I tried to use the Sophos removal tool in the Sophos app and got a message that an incomplete removal was completed. How do I complete a full removal of Sophos so I can install a new updated version? When I try to download a newer version now it will not load and gives me an error message that an incomplete version remains on the computer.

Rare I suggest an Application to remove another Application but this one comes highly suggested by some Contributors.

I personally have not used it, so proceed with Caution if going this route

Part 1 of 2

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

Part 2 or 2

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

Additionally, in macOS 11 Big Sur, macOS 12 Monterey and macOS 13 Ventura.

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that can not be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications.

The only Entity that can open and modify or alter this Volume is Apple.

That would occur when a update or UpGrade is performed.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

AntiVirus Developers purposefully Market their product to create a “ Fear Factor “. In so doing, creating a False Need for their Product.

The The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

You can check to see if you've removed all of the supporting files by downloading and running the shareware app Find Any File to search for any files with the application's or the developer's name in the file name.  For Sophos software you'd do the following search(es):

1 - Name contains sophos

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop or Trash bin in the Dock for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

If you get warnings that the file can't be deleted because it is in use or used by another app boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and delete from there.

Note:  if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode.  This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will assure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
