ESPN app turns on then shuts off - help

What is the version system software on your Apple TV box? Update your Apple TV - Apple Support.

The ESPN app now requires tvOS 15 or later.

Also verify that your settings are configured to update apps automatically. Or update manually through the App Store app.

The first step you may try is forcing the app to close and then reopen it. In Switch quickly between Apple TV apps:

"Switch between apps or force an app to quit

1. On the Siri Remote, press the TV button   twice quickly. 

Windows representing each of the open apps appear in a row on the screen.

2. In app-switching view, navigate to a different app in the center of the screen, then do either of the following:

• Switch to the highlighted app: Press the clickpad center (Siri Remote 2nd generation or later) or touch surface (Siri Remote 1st generation).
• Force the highlighted app to quit: Swipe up on the clickpad or touch surface.

3. To leave app-switching view without changing apps, press the Back button  (Siri Remote 2nd generation or later) or Menu button (Siri Remote 1st generation)."

If that doesn't help, you may consider deleting and then reinstalling the app in question. Customize the Apple TV Home Screen covers deletion in the "Delete an app" section.

Should all those fail, use How to contact an app developer to contact the app developer for additional support if this is impacting only that single app, and restarting the Apple TV does not help either.
