How can I use an external microphone for videoconference?

Hi,


I'm trying to use a external microphone (XLR mic + class-compliant USB interface) with my iPhone, connected through the iPhone Camera Lightning USB 3 Adapter.


  • Recording audio in Voice Memos with the microphone works.
  • Listening to audio from YouTube or from Voice Memos with headphones (connected to the USB interface) works.


But... Neither using the microphone or the headphones will work for videoconference apps (e.g. Facetime, Skype, etc). The iPhone will keep using internal mic and speakers.


Is there anything I'm missing here? Why the iPhone just doesn't take the external microphone and headphones for the videoconference apps when it works flawless for things like Voice Memos or YouTube?

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Search for the app, then tap it. If you can't find it, tap the account button  or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap "Not on this [device]," then tap the app.
  3. The app's product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID.
  4. In the App Store on iPhone, you can find the App Support button below the reviews.
