iPad Pro will not mirror screen after 16.3.1 update

Instructor using an iPad Pro connected to an HDMI cable, all was well. Updated to 16.3.1, and now cannot mirror the screens, only extended desktop.

"since upgrading my iPad Pro to iOS 16.3.1 last week, I

have not been able to simply mirror my iPad screen to the classroom

console/screen as I did before. Until this week, I just connected the digital

laptop cord to my iPad via an adapter and it would mirror whatever I did on the

screen. Since the update, I am forced to use AirPlay and for the life of me, I

can’t figure out how to use it effectively. I’m forced to move an open Keynote,

Safari or YouTube page to the monitor. But at that point, it’s gone from my

iPad and I cannot manipulate the apps (open, close, volume, etc) in any way.

The iPad thinks that the classroom console is a second monitor, but obviously,

it isn’t. Sometimes, the screen disappears altogether. I tried closing AirPlay

but AirPlay opens whenever I connect the HDMI cable. I have tried restarting

everything - the console, my ipad, reinserting the cord. Nothing consistently

changes the situation.

I can't seem to get the

page to simply mirror. Now it thinks that the classroom monitor is an extended

laptop, which means I cannot open or close anything on it while it's actually

open. "

Check the Mirror Display setting while the iPad is connected to the external screen:

Settings > Display & Brightness > Arrangement > Mirror Display - set to ON
