Keychain

All of a sudden, I get this message when sending an email: Mail wants to sign using key "privateKey in your keychain. This occurred after I signed a secure document.

Is this something that I need to do?

This would be a normally expected alert when you are signing a document.

(Think of it as a warning that the desk drawer holding your “Signature Rubber Stamp” - used on paper documents - was just opened)

You are signing the document to prove that you ARE you via “digital logic.”

This signing process requires access to your private key … which should ONLY reside on your own Tightly Secured devices.

(otherwise anyone could masquerade as you signature-wise)

The recipient’s software compares the document contents and your digital signature against your public key.

If the comparison “checks out” … the recipient knows that the the signature could ONLY have been generated by YOU with YOUR tightly-guarded Private Key …

… and therefore the document is authentic and has not been altered since your signing.
