I cannot get a clean copy of my internal drive to an external one

I think I found a bug for Apple and I wonder how I will reach them about it . Here it goes ......I am on a MacBook Pro 16 M1 Max in Monterey or Ventura ( They both have the bug ). I decided to clone my internal 2 Tera drive on an external 2 Tera drive in order to update the external to Ventura and verify if everything is ok in Ventura before updating my internal also to Ventura. Everything looked ok except for my external audio interface that was not appearing for me to choose even if I followed the procedure in the security preferences when I was re-installing the driver.

I also did multiple restores à la Apple to be certain it was not because on the cloning process . Na , it is still failing the audio interface recognition.

Then , I have reach the Audio Interface company and I have opened a ticket since they support my interface until Ventur officially. They answered me nicely and ask me to do a couple of things for them which was running some terminal commands to grab some informations for them to analyse.

The conclusion from them is that there is a bug in the Apple OSX that does not allow their driver to deal with the interface when the booted drive is external . And, I agree with them , there is something missing there from Apple . Let me know if some of you could be in the same situation.

Read carefully my last message , I did multiple times

Well, you stated you did, "Apple official restores." It doesn't matter how carefully one reads it, it makes no sense.

"Restore" as was used in the past no longer applies. You have to install the OS and then Migrate your data. This article about restoring from Time Machine is for the internal drive, not an external, but it is the closest thing available.

Restore your Mac from a backup - Apple Support

But, it references the Reinstall macOS article which is specifically about the internal drive. I think it should work for an external.

For the external you would need to install the OS onto it from that Mac. Cloning it will almost always fail. Once you have the OS installed and you successfully boot from it (have you successfully created a bootable external drive?), you would need to migrate your data. I have never done so from the internal drive, but I suppose it is possible. You may have to migrate from a Time Machine backup.

Hi, I did something new to try find out more, I have installed the last Ventura 13.3 on another external drive ( Newly formatted APFS )

Then, I did not put back my last TimeMachine backup in order to be certain I was starting fresh.

Then, I have installed the Audio Interface driver and I did the procedure to allow the external drive to deal with the developer software usage just like it is on the internal drive.

Then, I tested it and it does not work. It still does not load the driver when needed ;-(

I did this restore multiple times in multiple ways. First, I did a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner and it did the bug , then I have reformatted the external drive each time and I did Apple official restores in Monterey and Ventura and it did again the same bug. So, my conclusion is that the security mechanism ( Apple ) is buggy on an external restored boot drive. I have so many audio software and plugins that could be incompatible with a new OS that I always do that to be on the safe side. That is very important for me.

I don't know why it doesn't work on the external, I was just commenting on your use of the confusing term, "restore," and expecting everyone to understand what you really meant. Restore doesn't mean what it previously did, so it doesn't provide any clarity when you said you used the official Apple restores.

If you want people to understand what you did, post links to the official Apple support articles you followed.

Also, your question referenced a "clean copy" of the internal drive. That, essentially, is not possible anymore.

When a computer is told to boot from a certain HD, it does not treat that choice different than an internal HD and you know the internal works. And his doesn't make sense, but your external drive has a different name than the internal, could that be a factor with some memory within the hardware that requires a setting change on the external OS? You said you use Carbon Copy Cloner, ask them about this situation as there is an appearance that you do not have a fully functional copy using their software.
