Transferring purchased songs to usb still won't play on SUV. 2012 Santa Fe.

I've done everything correctly, but still can't play songs on the usb stick. Did the transfer properly, set vlc, then apple as default source, and sometimes the stick shows the songs, and sometimes nothing is there. Even the gig size is not registering sometimes. When it does, no problem playing on my laptop, but not SUV. SUV says reading error, or something like that. Anyone have any suggestions? What am I doing wrong? I tried 3 different sticks and a memory card, as well. Aaarrrggghhhh!!

Thanks for replying, jaimie67, and that additional info, it really helps! Based on what you described, you may want to look into what formats your Santa Fe radio supports, such as MP3, and use iTunes to convert, if possible, the purchases. Here is some more info:

"You can convert a song to a different file format (and keep a copy of the original). For example, you can save a copy of a compressed song file such as MP3 or AAC in an uncompressed song format (AIFF or WAV).
When converting from a compressed to uncompressed file format (for example, from MP3 to AIFF), you shouldn’t notice any reduction in sound quality. However, when converting between compressed formats (for example, MP3 and AAC), you might notice a reduction in the sound quality. For the best results, if you want your music encoded in a different file format, import the music again from the original source using the new encoding format.
Important: You can convert iTunes Store purchases only if they’re iTunes Plus songs.

1. In the iTunes app  on your PC, choose Edit > Preferences, then click General.
2. Click Import Settings.
3. In the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the format you want to convert songs to, then click OK to save the settings.
4. Select one or more songs in your library, then choose File > Convert > Create [format] Version.
The song in its original format and the newly converted song appear in your library."

Hello jaimie67,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

We'd like to clarify a few details to ensure we have a correct understanding of the issue. You stated that sometimes the music shows, and sometimes it does not. Have you noticed any similarities in settings or apps being used from when it detects the music on the USB drive versus when it doesn't? If so, please describe those similarities.

If/When you see the error message, make sure to make a note of exactly what it says. That info can help us in determining the best steps to offer to resolve this issue.

Also, check out this link to make sure you're properly downloading previous iTunes purchases onto your PC: Download previous iTunes purchases on PC - Apple Support.

Cheers!

Hi. Thanks for responding. I used ctrl a to mass transfer from itunes to memory stick and a memory card. I can see them on my laptop as transferred showing in a list. However, when I click properties, nothing is showing up, even though the songs are there when I look at my laptop.

When I plug the stick or card into the usb port in my vehicle, the screen reads "reading error" only. Nothing more. I have another memory stick with songs I got elsewhere, and have no issues with it. I tried putting a song on that memory stick, but it only plays my original music, not the song I purchased from itunes. I am only using this for personal use, no one else.

I tried your method, but it didn't work. I also went to file, and there is a convert option, which I used. It showed it converted the songs individually to mp3 and I transferred them to my usb stick. However, when I plug the stick in my suv, the names of the songs list very fast then it shows "empty usb. Any other ideas? Anything will help. Otherwise, I give up on this place.
