2013 Mac Pro 5k monitor?

Just purchased a “vintage” 2013 Mac Pro and I would like to know if there are any 5k monitors that will work with this Mac, either natively or by using adapters? In the specs for the new Studio Display, it appears that the 2013 Mac Pro is not compatible, at least natively, so are there any ways to use it using adapters, or any other 5k displays that will work with this Mac Pro?

The reason I am interested in 5k is because I have a 2017 iMac 27” with a 5k display that I intend to keep as my main computer and I love the 5k so I would like to have that option for this “vintage” Mac as well.

Thanks!

Hi E. Kennedy,

The technical specs for your Mac are outlined at Mac Pro (Late 2013) - Technical Specifications. In there is the following information:

"Display Support

  • Connect up to:
    • Three dual-cable 5K displays
    • Six Thunderbolt displays"

While the Pro Display is the only option on the Apple site listed as compatible per Display - Apple, you may narrow prospective options by looking for dual-cable and Thunderbolt models.

Regards.

Thanks, Bill_T1 for your reply and the info.

I haven’t been able to find a “dual cable” 5k Thunderbolt Display, and the only Thunderbolt displays that I have found require Thunderbolt 3, none with T2 inputs, at least current models. And, I don’t suppose using this Apple Thunderbolt Cable (0.5 m) - White - Apple with this Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple would work when connected to the Apple Studio Display? And, I haven’t found any other docks that can convert 2 T2 inputs into a T3 output, if that’s even possible.

So, it appears I am stuck with using a 4k display with an HDMI connection, which is kind of disappointing considering the capabilities that this Mac Pro has.

Thanks, again, for the help.
