iPad won’t recognize Apple Pencils since update

Since I’ve updated my iPad Air 5 to iPadOS 16.3.1, my iPad has not been able to recognize my Apple Pencil 2. My Apple Pencil will connect to other compatible iPads, but my iPad won’t recognize any other Apple Pencils, even when it’s at 100% battery.

I brought it to Best Buy, who tried it several times, reset my iPad, and basically said it was a software issue with the iPad and that other people said they have the same issue.

Given that you have already reset the iPad, if the problem persists, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.

Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad and Pencil:
