I'm using apple mail on my MacBook, via a local internet provider, and just cleaned up my inbox and deleted about 1K emails from my inbox, but when I went to my trash they were nowhere to be seen, nor were they in my "deleted" folder. are they still on my computer somewhere?

Your settings may send deleted items to "Bin" or "Archive" folders in the Mail app:
If you want check: Mail > Preferences > Viewing > Move discarded messages to ...
Generally messages delete entirely after a certain period, like one month
In Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Erase deleted messages ...
(ie: can be set for up to one month as preferred).
Hope this works for you, (ie: my Mac OS is a different one.)
