Hi,

Every colour laser printer model listed in the article About AirPrint - Apple Support should be compatible without additional drivers, provided that the printer and the computer are connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections.

AirPrint as such would work with macOS 10.12 Sierra (the section where this has been posted), but extra software (for example, for setup and ink management purposes) from a printer manufacturer may require a later operating system.

When AirPrint is not used, a USB connection would require software from the printer manufacturer. So, for USB, you will have to ensure that suitable drivers are available.

If you do not have a Wi-Fi network (for AirPrint), you could create a local one for printing purposes by using almost any old Wi-Fi router. This router does not necessarily have to be connected to the Internet.

By the way, the Epson WF-4720 inkjet printer is listed in the aforementioned About AirPrint article as a model supporting the driverless AirPrint technology.

AirPrint also allows printing from iPhones and iPads.

For decades, I’ve been an Apple user and have experienced a wide spectrum of hardware challenges. Congratulations are due to the Apple team which has directly helped me work through several critical issues. That said, this is the first time I’ve gone to the community site for support. Jan’s response came quickly and offered clear and straightforward options to help me move forward. Thanks Jan!
