Safari on my Mac will not open as it says that there is "no space left on device"

My Safari will not open as it says that there is "no space left on device". I am not sure where there could be no space on my device, as my memory and storage on my computer is not near at all to being full.

What should I do? I would like to use Safari again!

I have exactly the same error, and have plenty of space (1 TB+ available hard disk, 64GB RAM). This error has nothing to do with physical disk space or memory. But what exactly does it mean? Someone, somewhere, in Apple Land created this error message and knows what it means. Can we get that person? The error is intermittent, and makes Safari virtually unusable. The page always opens in Chrome.

Solutions that suggest we just "empty library cache, clear history, restart Safari or reboot" are less than helpful. Maybe we don't want to restart Safari and lose all of our tabs, even though the error seems to have nothing to do with number of tabs open. And expecting someone to stop everything and reboot their machine is a non-starter.

This is not good answer to the problem, I'm sorry to say I do not have an answer. On this forum I daily see so very many odd problems with Safari. some are easily solved, others not. I personally use Safari and am lucky to have few issues with it. That said, I also rely on the Firefox browser which seems to be far more stable and reliable. It can also be individually updated or reinstalled. I suggest moving on to another browser instead of fighting Safari.

First, I think you are confused between storage and memory. Memory is how much RAM you have installed/available for use. Storage is how much space you have on your HD for files, apps, etc. If you have too little storage your computer will stop functioning! First, I recommend that you open the Disk Utility app and there you can accurately see how much space you have used on your hard drive. If it is almost full, you should immediately get an external drive so that you can copy files (photos, music, etc.) on to it and then delete them from the hard drive to clear needed space. External drives are reasonably priced and easy to install with a vendor provided USB cable. It may need to be reformatted first, though.

If something else is going on, please clearly explain what is happening in detail.
