iPhone 13 with TracFone sim card

Hello, I am buying a new iPhone 13 from Apple online that has the selection to “connect to any carrier later”. I was told the phone would be 100% unlocked forever, but I want to make sure.. I want to use a Walmart Family Mobile (which is a TracFone SIM card), but I heard that these SIM cards will lock my iPhone to their service? Is this correct or am I mistaken? Also, is it fine if I put my old sim in my new phone or would this mess something up and I should get a new one of those airtime SIM cards? Please let me know, thanks!

Hi pwesa30,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you're considering purchasing an iPhone from Apple and you're concerned that an unlocked iPhone can be locked by your carrier.

When you purchase an iPhone from Apple that is unlocked, it can't be locked by a carrier. You can learn more here: Buy iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini - Apple

"Will my new iPhone be unlocked?

Yes. An iPhone purchased from apple.com is unlocked. Once your new iPhone is activated, it remains unlocked, which means you can use it with any network that provides service for iPhone. The exception is when you buy an iPhone with an AT&T Installment Plan. It will be locked to AT&T and will only work on the AT&T network for the term of your Installment Plan agreement."

If the SIM card will fit in the iPhone you choose, you can use the same SIM card to activate your cellular service. If it doesn't fit, you can request a new SIM card from your carrier.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
