SOLUTION: Gestures not working across multiple swipes

I've seen that several others are experiencing issues with gestures not working on several apps, but most prominently with safari and the calendar. On safari, I noticed that while I could scroll and see movement to move forward and backward between web pages, I was never able to fully go back or forward. In other words, the "scroll" was buggy and never made a complete turn between web pages. On the calendar, I just could not scroll left/right between the weeks view and could not scroll up/down on the monthly view. Over the past two years, I've had several other small related features not working properly and I've never seen a sufficient answer even though many others have experienced similar problems.

Here's the solution - as crazy as it sounds, just go to System Settings > Trackpad > More Gestures > then change around all your settings. For example, change two finger scroll to three finger swipe, and so on. Do this for every setting, then change it all back to how you had it. Abracadabra. Now it will all work just fine.
