"Find My" doesn't work

One of the many, used to be cool, features on Apple is the "Find My" feature. A scatter-brained old fart like me is constantly searching for EVERYTHING but in the case of my iPhone or Laptops it was just a matter of opening "Find My," and push the "Play Sound" button and the unit would tell me where it is. Now it doesn't even start to work. Push the "Play Sound" and you get "Sound Pending" but no sound ever occurs. In "Directions" it gives a location that isn't even close. Today I tried it on my MacBook Pro (garbage, Mac is going downhill faster than Ivan Origone). The computer was in my lap, but wouldn't play a sound, and "directions" said it was 600 feet away. So here's the actual question: Is everyone having this problem? or am I living in some ultra-magnetic computer warp that makes my computers crazy?
