Keyboard shortcut use without using mouse for record automation

I want to record an automation of keys to automate processes, without using the mouse because this is dependent on the place of the windows. I use the automator to record my steps. One of the things i cannot find is e.g. how to move to the sidebar of the finder and select items like documents or recent or aps with the arrow keys

Well I don't really grok what it is you are doing here, non-the-less Finder has all kinds of baked in key shortcuts...


Command N opens your default Finder Window:
