is iTunes match still a viable way to access my music library on my iMac across my other devices without subscribing to apple music?

Hi,

Yes. iTunes Match is still viable if you don't want Apple Music. By the way, Apple Music includes the features of iTunes Match . If you decide to subscribe to Apple Music in the future , the transition would be seamless as both use the iCloud music library.
