Number registered to Apple ID but not associated with this phone

I have recently changed my mobile providers and SIM card. In the process I gave the new provider my PAC code to transfer the number I was previously using. This was transferred successfully and calls from my phone use the correct (old) number. The problem is that I have since had a pop up notification saying (in regard to the number being used that was transferred from my old provider) “This number is registered to your Apple ID but is not associated with this phone. You can keep using this number for iMessage and FaceTime until it expires.”.

Since seeing this message I have tried changing the My Number in the Phone settings from the number associated with the new SIM Card to the number that was transferred from my old provider and is the number used when calling but the changes do not save. I have also tried turning off iMessage and FaceTime and restarting my phone as suggested in previous discussions about this issue but this has not resolved the issue.

Thanks for any help you can give!

If anyone else has the same issue I was able to fix this from the following advice from my carrier.

1) Turn off dial assist in the Settings -> Phone

2) Reset my network settings in Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings

This will cause your phone to turn off.

3) Once the phone was turned back on I was told to turn it off and on again for good measure.

It works fine now with the number transferred by the PAC code being accepted by the SIM and phone and showing the correct number in the phone settings.

You need to reset iMessage and FaceTime. To do that:

  • Go to Settings/iMessage/Send & Receive, tap on your Apple ID and sign out.
  • Sign in using your Apple ID.
  • Go to Settings/FaceTime, tap on your Apple ID, and sign out.
  • Sign in using your Apple ID.

If this doesn’t fix it, the workaround is to change your Apple ID password→Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support

Then sign out and sign back in everywhere with the new password. You may have to do this→What to do after you change your Apple ID or password - Apple Support

Hi! So I am having the same issue. Changed carrier but ported my old phone number, then got the message that said "This number is registered to you Apple ID, but is not associated with this phone" As per this forum's recommendation, I clicked where “in red” it said to remove the number from iMessage and FaceTime. Then I backed out of both iMessage and FaceTime and went back into them and selected my phone number again when it popped up.

Except now my phone # disappeared for good and I don't have a phone number in my phone, Facetime or iMessages settings  Can someone help me understand how to reactive my phone number on my phone?!
