why doesnt my apple remote turn off both the TV and apple box? Currently is only turns off the apple box. I need to use the Vizio remote to turn off the TV.

Did you activate HDMI-CEC on both devices? That is the usual method to wake and sleep all HDMI devices in the setup.
For Apple TV: Settings﹥Remotes and Devices﹥Control TVs and Receivers﹥On
For your TV: See its manual.
Then the TV could wake when the Apple TV wakes, and the TV could go to standby when the Apple TV is set to sleep.
Note that not all TVs have built-in support for all CEC commands, so in case the setup won’t go to standby with this setting activated, then consult with the manufacturer if this function is supported for your model TV.

Why doesn't my apple remote shut off my apple box along with my vizio tv at the same time? Currently I use Vizio remote to power off TV and apple remote to power off apple box.
