How does one synchronize Apple Remote so it will turn on TV, as well as, Apple TV box?

I just bought a new Apple TV set-top box and remote. The remote will turn off the TV, but when the system (TV and Box) is off, the power button will only turn on the set-top box. It will not turn on the TV. How do I synchronize it?

Did you activate HDMI-CEC on both devices? That is the usual method to wake and sleep all HDMI devices in the setup.

For Apple TV: Settings﹥Remotes and Devices﹥Control TVs and Receivers﹥On

For your TV: See its manual.

Then the TV could wake when the Apple TV wakes, and the TV could go to standby when the Apple TV is set to sleep.

Note that not all TVs have built-in support for all CEC commands, so in case the setup won’t go to standby with this setting activated, then consult with the manufacturer if this function is supported for your model TV. YMMV.
