I understand how to change it, but my question is why did it change to pink on its own? I did not change it to pink so why did this contact change pink and none of my other contacts have? Just curious as to what caused the change

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. We understand a contacts initials have changed colors on your iPhone.
What may have happened, is the contact changed their contact card info, including color, and shared that change with you via iCloud. More info on how that takes place can be found here: Set up iCloud for Contacts on all your devices - Apple Support
