Airpods volume safety ceiling

I have a simple question: Is there a way to prevent dangerously loud sounds from being played back by the Airpods?

I would LOVE to use them for phone calls and consuming live content, but I'm simply too afraid of loud sounds to occur, that can damage my hearing, so I don't dare to do it. On the first day of receiving my Airpods, I had exactly such an incident, where the person, I was in a call with, was connected through an apparently faulty bluetooth device, that decided to emit a loud static high-pitched sound blast to me. That absolutely floored me and made me scared of using the Airpods altogether.

Since the speakers of the Airpods are positioned so close to the eardrum, there is unfortunately great potential for it to cause some serious damage to your hearing. So you either need to be in total control of what is played back for audio - or you need some kind of safety mechanism to make the Airpods refuse to play or suppress dangerously loud content for you.

I see a lot of people in my everyday using their Airpods for phone calls, and I simply don't understand, how they dare to gamble with their health and hearing. Am I the only person to have received a deafening sound blast of doom to scare me away from this?

I have enabled "Reduce Loud Sound" option (with a 75 decibels ceiling), and it didn't help me.

Interestingly - as part of the "7 day exposure" protection program - the iPhone continuously logs audio volumes, and if I access those data in the Health app, it tells me, that I have only experienced up to 61 decibels of sound. I would estimate the previously mentioned sound blast to be at 100-150 decibels, and it made me jump in shock and tear out the Airpods in an explosive gesture.

I'm wondering, if the technical task to achieve hearing safety is more difficult/complex, than I can currently imagine.
