Why is the wall plug part of my 20v charger getting very hot?

All chargers will produce heat. Depending on the wattage being drawn by the device that is charging (like a larger iPad Pro which has a large battery requiring a lot of current to charge), the charger can indeed get hot.


If it's too hot to touch or hold, then it is too hot. You should then contact Apple support for an evaluation of the device and the charger.

If it's hot but not too hot for you to hold or touch, it's fine. This is one indication that the charger is doing what it's intended to do.
