how do i re-install Maco osx when i dont have a disk to install it to

I am trying re-install Mac OS X Lion to an older MBP that I erased, with no option to restore. I am taken to a screen that asks me to select the disk to install, but no disks are showing up.

You'll need to use Disk Utility to format the hdd properly before you can install the OS.

For the Mac, the format should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with a GUID partition map.
