Ventura 13.3 broke my screensaver--
Upgraded last night. Now screen saver won't appear on the main display, just on the extended display. After a while, the words "No Picture" appear on the main display.

This happened once before recently. Any screen saver that shows photos from a folder, while showing them in the tiny preview, just shows a black screen when activated.
I just updated and now no photos show anymore when screen saver is activated.
2019 iMac and 27" AOC monitor here as well, screensaver will show up on the external but not the iMac, the Apple provided screensavers are working fine. So it seems like whatever they did, it broke the 3rd party screensavers.
I am seeing the same problem in two different M1 MacBook Pros (one a work machine) since 13.3. Whenever they are connected to an external monitor, it was refusing to show photos on that monitor. This happens with any of the photo-display screensavers that I tried (flip-up, Ken Burns. Photo Mobile, Photo Wall etc).
By experimenting a bit, I discovered that whichever monitor is the designated the “Main Display” will refuse to show photos, and show the “no photos“ message. The clock, however, appears just fine on that monitor, when that option is enabled. The “Extended Display” shows photos just fine, even when switched to the other monitor.
I was able to work around the problem by changing the refresh rate of the MacBook ”Built-in Display” to anything other than”ProMotion.”
System Settings > Displays > Built-in Display > Refresh rate > [select something other than ProMotion]
No response, so far. Today I tried physically switching my iMac and external monitor, and that did not help. However, after I had switched everything back with a little help from BetterDisplay, the screensaver worked on both, once, after the initial startup. Second attempt was back to the "No Photos" on the iMac. Screensaver setting shows only the iMac, whereas the Displays Setting shows both. Looking forward to 13.4.
Good to know I'm not alone in this. Hope the update isn't too far off.
In the meantime, at least on my M1 MBP, I am able to eventually get the screensaver running by repeatedly triggering it (via hot corner). After a few/several tries it will sometimes kick in on both screens. Same trick doesn't seem to work on my Intel-based iMac however.
Having a similar issue. I have Brooklyn installed as my screen saver. It still displays, but is now in the corner and half cropped. I am using 2 external monitors on a Studio (One with Type C, one with HDMI) one of which has a vertical orientation. I have tried removing and installing Brooklyn again but issue persists. Hoping this gets patched or a solution posted.
Same problem here - I unplugged my second monitor, plugged it back in and all was well, for a while. Now the main monitor is blank again. I called Apple Support and was told they are aware of it and working on it for an update. Unplugging the second monitor also solved my disappearing Search window, but don't know for how long. How hard can it be to figure these things out Before an update? Likewise, how hard can it be for Apple Photos to have "Select all"-"Shuffle"-"Play Slideshow" like every other photo application?? Sheesh.
Same issue. Screen saver does not show on the built-in display on my MacBook Pro (2019) and on only 1 of my external monitors. Multiple monitors show in the Wallpaper settings, only 1 monitor shows in the Screen Saver settings. Interesting, it appears the monitor in Screen Saver settings is the built-in monitor and not the external monitor.
Same issue for me. I have a Studio display as my main monitor. No photos on the main, but they do show up on the secondary monitor (LED Cinema) I did the Studio display firmware update the day after updating to Ventura 13.3. Unfortunately, I didn't notice if the screensaver stopped showing on the main display before or after the firmware update...
Same here. Still broken. I previously filed a bug report...
I tried creating a test folder of a couple of images. The screen saver will randomly show up on both screens if I click on Preview, but it more often than not says "No Photos"
Same problem, except sometimes it would display them after using the hot corner to launch screensaver. I updated to 13.3.1 hoping it would fix but no. Instead now it *never* shows them on 2nd display, so at least it's consistent! I get "No photos" with some screensavers, or just black screen with others. Obviously there are photos since it is displaying them fine on monitor 1.
I am having the same issue, with 13.3.1 and fliqlo clock when using two monitors. The screensaver shows up cut off on my mbp, only displaying half the clock, and the secondary monitor (a new apple studio display) shows nothing. Some of the default apple screensavers are also not working in various ways, but some are fine. Please let me know if you find a solution. Hopefully it's just apple needing an update.
After updating to Ventura 13.3.1 (22E261) today, my screensaver photos also will no longer play on my external Apple LED cinema display. Only a black screen with the words 'no photos'. The apple generic screensavers like Ventura, Monterey and hello do still work, but not my screensaver photos selected from in my Pictures folder. The screensaver photos still show just fine on my 2019 MacBook Pro.
I discovered that if I close my 2019 16" MBP, the screensaver photos will then show up on my external monitor.
If I reopen the MBP it switches back to the MBP.
So evidently it can only handle one screen at a time.
Sidenote; in system settings, both Displays and Wallpaper show both my MBP and Cinema Display at the top of the System settings window. Screen Saver only shows the Cinema Display.
Yep, that seems to be the pattern i'm seeing. However I have noticed since 13.3.1, its actually better than 13.3? On 13.3 9/10 times it was broken, but 13.3.1 feels more like 60/40 Broken/working (not that I am really paying that much attention or keeping track)
Nothing a user can do will fix this. Apple broke it and it's up to them to fix it. Just report it to them if you haven't already. The more a bug gets reported, the more likely it is for them to notice and fix it.
