Ventura 13.3 broke my screensaver--

Upgraded last night. Now screen saver won't appear on the main display, just on the extended display. After a while, the words "No Picture" appear on the main display.

I am seeing the same problem in two different M1 MacBook Pros (one a work machine) since 13.3. Whenever they are connected to an external monitor, it was refusing to show photos on that monitor. This happens with any of the photo-display screensavers that I tried (flip-up, Ken Burns. Photo Mobile, Photo Wall etc).

By experimenting a bit, I discovered that whichever monitor is the designated the “Main Display” will refuse to show photos, and show the “no photos“ message. The clock, however, appears just fine on that monitor, when that option is enabled. The “Extended Display” shows photos just fine, even when switched to the other monitor.

I was able to work around the problem by changing the refresh rate of the MacBook ”Built-in Display” to anything other than”ProMotion.”

System Settings > Displays > Built-in Display > Refresh rate > [select something other than ProMotion]

Same problem, except sometimes it would display them after using the hot corner to launch screensaver. I updated to 13.3.1 hoping it would fix but no. Instead now it *never* shows them on 2nd display, so at least it's consistent! I get "No photos" with some screensavers, or just black screen with others. Obviously there are photos since it is displaying them fine on monitor 1.

I am having the same issue, with 13.3.1 and fliqlo clock when using two monitors. The screensaver shows up cut off on my mbp, only displaying half the clock, and the secondary monitor (a new apple studio display) shows nothing. Some of the default apple screensavers are also not working in various ways, but some are fine. Please let me know if you find a solution. Hopefully it's just apple needing an update.

Mac Studio here.

I finally got around to the latest Ventura update and the first thing I noticed was that it changed my display arrangement. I have 2 rows with a single monitor up top and 2 below. It put them all in a single row, and changed which monitor was the main screen.

As well, only 1 of the extended displays shows the screen saver images if at all. Other times, all displays are either black or show "No Pictures".

OK, this is not an issue for me. Photo Library works - note some users reported the photos showed up "later", probably an indexing process. But I thought I would re-cap a few points about the issue and fixes in 13.4:

  • some built-in savers are not affected by this issue (Flurry, Arabesque, Shell), most of them are (photos ones, but also Hello and even Message), the third-party ones differ, probably depending on which "engine" it uses
  • the error is manifested either by a blank screen, or inability to load photos, or by showing the same content on all displays where it should be different (i.e. Hello or Message)
  • the issue was always intermittent; in 13.3, the failure rate was well above 90%, and in 13.4, it's below 10%

Same here! I have two monitors using the Classic screensaver and up until the 13.3 upgrade I would see photos on both screens. Now just the right screen shows a photo. I can occasionally see photos on the left screen when I trigger the screen saver manually but it is rare.

I had a similar issue, but in my case, the secondary display stopped showing the screensaver. Note that I had my MacBook Pro disconnected from my dock when I did the Ventura 13.3 update. The next day, I connected my Mac to my dock (which also has my secondary display connected) and noticed the issue. My secondary display eventually just displayed No Photos. I tried restarting my Mac and the first time I initiated the screensaver, the secondary display showed the screensaver, but on subsequent initiations, it did not.
