Apple Mac password lock reset

Hi,

I had to reset my Apple ID and Mac log in as I haven’t used them in ages and forgot them!!

when I log in to my Mac it won’t allow me to view my saved passwords (in the key icon) which I need to restore some info to my phone because it wants a password to view them. I can’t remember what that password is!!

I have tried my new Apple ID password and my new Mac logon password and they aren’t working.

is there a way I can re-set this password?

thank you

If you don't remember the previous password for login, the same one that would be used to unlock the keychain, then you can only reset the keychain password but will have no access to the previously stored passwords. Resetting the password will erase previous passwords. You'll have to visit your websites and reset the password manually for each.

Once you reset the keychain password, I recommend you allow iCloud to sync that.

After you get your passwords straightened out, PLEASE do yourself a favor and buy a Password Manager such as 1Password. These types of apps help you manage all the passwords you are responsible for. You can get a license for yourself or your family and it will work across multiple devices including:

* Mac OS computers

* MS Windows computers

• IOS devices (iPhone, iPod, iPad etc..)

• Android devices

The advantage of a password manager is very simple, you only have remember 1 password to log into your account and then you access all of your other passwords. These apps are easy to use and worth the price.

At my home both my wife and I have use 1Password and inside of my 1Password, I keep her 1Password login in the event anything happens to her, she does the same for me. That way we are both covered and our passwords are secure and NEVER forgotten.
