Can’t install macOS from internet recovery

I have a 2017 Imac with a fusion drive that I cannot put macOS on. I’ve completely reset my computer a couple times over the last couple of years and I’ve always had to put macOS onto a USB on another machine. You would think there’d be a problem with the fusion drive, but it doesn’t matter if my drives are joined or not, every time i try to install macOS from internet recovery I get the error “An error occurred while preparing the instalation”. I’ve already tried to change the date and I just can’t install it. Please help me so I don’t have to do the whole USB thing anymore☹️

Hey there mr_boombastic1,

While it's never recommended to change the date of anything in order to accommodate installing macOS onto your Mac, we'd like to learn more about what's happening, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. As you mentioned having macOS on a USB drive, have you already tried installing macOS using that method? If you haven't tried this yet, this article shows how to create a bootable installer to try installing macOS: Create a bootable installer for macOS
  2. As it may have to do with what's currently happening, what's the reason for wanting to reinstall macOS from internet recovery?
  3. Is your Mac able to boot up normally, or have you erased its entire hard drive?

Cheers!
