On the iPhone with the paired AirPods go into Settings/Bluetooth and click on the (i) button next to the entry for the AirPods.
However, this is not a great way to confirm genuine AirPods, because the firmware upgrades are (a) infrequently released by Apple, and (b) applied automatically (no manual method) so there can be some delays.
The real test is "Do the pods work as expected". You will probably get another clue by putting the serial number into Apple's warranty checker, Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support
and looking to see if the purchase date is what you expect. Even this is not 100% reliable if you purchased from a reseller who may have held the AirPods on stock for some time.
The only perfect method is to get the AirPods examined (in hand) by Apple Support. That is probably more trouble than it is worth unless you have a problem.
