There is no single way to check your AirPods are genuine Apple products. There are many varieties of counterfeit around from the Great Copy Machine, so even things like checking serial numbers are good but not 100% certain. The only perfect way is to get the devices examined and tested by Apple, but this is usually difficult to arrange unless you have a problem or work near an Apple Store.

As a general guide, I would rate the options (best first)

  1. Existing AppleCare+ cover. If you already have it you know your AirPods are genuine because Apple has already inspected.
  2. You are able to purchase AppleCare+ but this has a cost, and it needs your AirPods to be checked by Apple and to be less than 30 days old.
  3. You see software versions changing and updating as expected. About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support
  4. You see the expected details and purchase dates in the Apple Coverage checker. Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support. A failure to recognise the device here is a critical red flag. A "good" result is hopeful, but it does not guarantee a valid serial number has not been cloned onto a counterfeit device.
