Auto detect workout

Can the Apple Watch detect when one starts cycling. I find I forget to select cycling when I start sometimes. Also, I paused my indoor ride and then forget to restart it, so lose 45 min of my workout. I’m not impressed and may go back to my Garmin watch. It had auto detect. Am I missing something here?

This is a really nice feature because this data also transfers to my health insurance app and I did not need to start a workout for everyday casual bike riding. A few weeks this stopped working. I checked every setting on my phone and watch related to this and tried resetting the watch and restoring it from backup, resetting and not restoring from backup and deleting the "Fitness Calibration Data". Sometimes when I go cycling the watch gives me a notification that it detected that I am cycling. When I start a workout from that notification it displays zero distance. Previously it also recorded the distance already travelled when starting a workout this way. How can I fix this so my watch starts recording cycling distance in the background again? iPhone SE iOS Version 17.5.1 Apple Watch SE Version 10.5

Real Life Jogging Hello! I'm looking for a way to set the Apple Watch Fitness to auto-detect when I'm walking and then eventually start running and then walk again and repeat, instantaneously. Is there such a feature or setting? I think that in real life you don't just run and then stop suddenly. I believe you still need to walk after running, and it's cumbersome to go to your watch just to end "Run" and start "Walk" or vice versa when you start your workout... most people walk first for a few minutes and then start to run and then walk. Or maybe it's just me :-D

Automatic outdoor walk on Apple Watch Series 8 Hi everyone, I'm trying to make my Apple Watch Series 8 automatically detect my outdoor walks, but seems that it is not doing so, sometimes it will register some minutes in hours of walking. Use the Workout app on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

The watch may auto-detect an Outdoor Cycling workout (but not an Indoor? - I don't know why).

You are right. I assume, that when on an indoor bike, one’s wrist is not moving, hence no wrist detection, however when riding outside the watch gps must recognize movement and auto detect riding.
