where can i buy a memory upgrade for my IMac 2010? its slow and I hyave two available slots for memory upgrade but the Apple help page doesn't say how to purchaes the cards

Adding memory won't necessity increase speed. The bottleneck is usually the hard drive speed. Also some 3rd party apps like any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps can be detrimental to performance.
With that in mind download and run Etrecheck. Be sure to give it Full Disk access before running.
Copy and paste the results into your reply. +1 on Toad's position. All the RAM in the world will not speed up a 2010 hard drive. Unless you like wasting money.
There is a simple test:
Three "yes" answers scream "slow hard drive."
A 2010 iMac has a slow SATA 3GB hard drive bus and simply cannot transfer data very fast. It can do no faster than about 100MB/sec. My 2017 iMac with factory SSD does 2000-2700MB/sec.
You are fighting slow hardware, not a lack of RAM.
The external SSD option used to speed 2012-2019 slow iMacs is not available to you due to a lack of USB3 ports.
Not necessarily for boot speed or app/document opening where disk access speed is the most important factor.
