Ultra Wideband (UWB) is a short-range wireless communication protocol that uses radio waves to transmit data over a distance of a few centimeters to a few meters. UWB technology enables high-precision, indoor location tracking and is used in applications such as keyless entry systems and mobile payments.
Apple's AirTag uses UWB technology to provide precise location tracking when it is used with a compatible iPhone. UWB allows the iPhone to determine the distance and direction of the AirTag more accurately, making it easier to locate the item to which the AirTag is attached.
To use UWB with AirTag, your iPhone needs to be a compatible model. Currently, the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and newer models support UWB. To check if UWB is enabled on your iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Networking & Wireless and make sure that "Networking & Wireless" is turned on.
If your iPhone is compatible, you should be able to use AirTag's precision location tracking feature. However, if you are having trouble locating an item with AirTag, there could be several factors at play, such as the distance between the AirTag and your iPhone or interference from other wireless signals in the area. In this case, you can try moving around to different locations or resetting the AirTag to see if that helps.
