failing all the above solutions and without calling apple support are there any suggestions as to what the problem might be apart from i’m using an iphone 8

imessage and facetime have an “error occurred during activation” message on iphone 8. followed all suggestions re off/on but no success. the message keeps re-appearing and the only way out is to shut the phone down. when i switch off facetime and imessage the caller id defaults to my icloud.com address. is this my phone telling me to upgrade!

To activate iMessage and FaceTime using your Phone number

First, check to know whether you have an SMS plan enabled at least for One SMS*** with your carrier. Contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider) the agency that issued the SIM to you

If your iPhone is used with a carrier not found in the wireless carrier articles, make sure you can send and receive international SMS. (One SMS*** Only)

If you can't turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime - Apple ...

*** You may not have an SMS plan enabled by your carrier for the SIM/eSIM that you use on your device. Apple Inc does not provide SMS services.

thanks SravanKra - I have an unlimited message contract with O2. As i said the error during activation message keeps re-appearing on the screen and the only solution I come up with is to shut the phone down
