All of my old devices etc are standard usb, but new Macbook only has usb C but not finding where usb c hub is when plugged in. know I'm probably being silly, but can't find it as an external device & not sure if it has failed or been deleted when went back to the shop & reset. Any help appreciated.

a USB hub is generally not its own device, and like an empty DVD reader, does not appear on the desktop.
menu > about this Mac > (system report) > USB ...
... should show the device on the USB-C bus to which its is connected
