Apple TV

I have had Apple TV for years now. I recently ordered a new one which arrived and I set up. I have it set so that it requires a PIN code to buy or rent movies and TV programs. That seems to have all changed, unfortunately.

Yesterday, I tried ordering a movie so I put in the PIN code. Instead of giving me access, I am now required to put in either my long password or confirm on a nearby Apple device registered to me. This is on my Apple TV device. I did use a password the first time but it took a while for me to hunt up the password, type it in and then send it to Apple. The other method is equally cumbersome and it does not work. I tried buying a second movie but used the nearby Apple device method. Sure enough, a message appears on my device asking confirmation. When I click on it, it fails and the Apple TV device tells me it failed. I have tried this many times now and I am frustrated. I do not know why Apple had to ruin a good thing by requiring confirmation but they did and all without advising me, one of many who support Apple, in advance that it was changing its protocols and how to use it. It may seem easy for them but it is, at least for me, a nightmare. I finally had to go to my iPhone, go to iTunes and order the program there. This is no way to run a business. This is very upsetting. If they have to have it, it should say Allow on the iPhone or whatever Apple device I use. There should be no additional numbers, passwords or whatever required. How do I fix this?

Thank you for the reply.  I found the setting though not where you said it was.  I

found it on the Apple TV at Settings> Users and Accounts> [my name]> and

under the Require Passwords section, Purchases.  It was set to Never,

which I prefer because I use the Restrictions settings.  As I said, it was

set to Never.  The system activated my iPhone. I reset the setting to

Never and then I tried with a new purchase. Now it works exactly as I

want.

Thank you,

Hey there, PhotoGene47,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities. We want to make sure you're able to enjoy content seamlessly on your Apple TV.

The first thing we'd want to recommend is making sure that you are following all of the steps in this article to set this feature up: Use an Apple device to sign in or make purchases on Apple TV - Apple Support. This is basically just a way to ensure that all of your bases are covered.

Another option you also may want to look into is setting the password requirement to "Never". This would enable you to make purchases seamlessly without the required confirmation that you mentioned in your post. If you wanted to do that, we'll include the steps below:

  1. "Navigate to Settings in the Apple TV app TV app.
  2. Go to  Accounts > Password Settings > Require Password, then select Always, After 15 Minutes, or Never."

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!
