Does Time Machine Backup downloaded books in Kindle for Mac App?

Opened Kindle app on my MBAir today and only 8 of my about 30 books were listed as downloaded. Yesterday all of them were downloaded books. I live with very poor internet speeds and only read previously downloaded books? ALL of them had been downloaded and listed as downloaded. I always read the 1st page offline after downloading to confirm I have the book in my computer.

The Kindle app has option to download books and the missing ones appear to be there, but in 3 hours I couldn’t download one book.

Are these in Time Machine backups? And can I recover them that way?

Thanks,

MacBook Pro (M1, 2020)

Hey there ArmandoWyo,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.

To get started, a Time Machine should back up files that are not apart of the macOS installation such as apps, music, photos, and documents. With that being said, this may include the books that are missing in the Kindle app.

For steps on how to find and restore items in a Time Machine backup, check out this link here: Restore items backed up with Time Machine on Mac - Apple Support

If you use Time Machine to back up the files on your Mac, you can easily get back lost items or recover older versions of files. You can use Time Machine within many apps.

1. On your Mac, open a window for the item you want to restore.
For example, to recover a file you accidentally deleted from your Documents folder, open the Documents folder.
If you’re missing an item from the desktop, you don’t need to open a window.
2. Use Launchpad to view and open apps on Mac and open Time Machine (in the Other folder). A message may appear while your Mac connects to the backup disk.
3. Use the arrows and timeline to browse the local snapshots and backups.
If you see a pulsing light to semi-dark gray tick mark, it represents a backup that’s still loading or validating on the backup disk.
4. Select one or more items you want to restore (these can include folders or your entire disk), then click Restore.
Restored items return to their original location. For example, if an item was in the Documents folder, it’s returned to the Documents folder.

Keep us updated on the results.

Best regards.

Thanks.

it seems difficult to learn what TM does NOT back up. or what is not included when phones backed up on my Mac. learned hard way when did migration to new MBA from TM backup and had no passwords in Keychain. or when set up new iPhone a month ago, and none of the downloaded data in apps (navigation maps, bird ID data, dictionaries, etc., etc.), was on backup and migrated. I thought that since I checked box that said BackUp "all data on iPhone", instead of what's "most important" that it meant "all data". Nope. After migration user is expected to go back to each source and download again. (really what’s expected is that everything in Cloud and everyone is always connected. Not my reality, but it is Apple’s.)

Even though I triple backup (external, Backblaze, and a Dual Disk LaCie), I really don't know what I am backing up. Subject for a good book.

This one had a happy ending. I spent time with Kindle app, downloading each book again. took 3 sessions as I did other things on computer. And afterwards backed up to external HD with TM and looked at back up copy in TM, the books are each there in "My Kindle Content." Appears OK, but then, had been there before.

thanks again.
