Convert Rich Text to Plain text destroy body formatting

This is new since Ventura.

Reply to an e-mail and converting from rich text to plain text creates a totally destroyed email body.

The conversion convert tabulations into spaces, carriage returns disappear.

It even shows lines of HTML codes at the beginning of the e-mail...

This is really annoying, odd and wrong.

See the 2 screen-shots attached, first one is how it shows in rich text, second is how it is converted in plain text (Arial font).

Plain text should be the most simple and basic form... it is a mess instead.

My work-around:

Get WordService from Devon Technologies on the Mac App Store. It is free.

Then change the Mail setting so that you reply to HTML messages with HTML.

Then, for each HTML message that you want to reply to:

  1. Give the "Reply" command by mouse or keyboard.
  2. Select all the text in the message.
  3. Re-format the text by using the keyboard shortcut (command + &) from WordService. This step replaces Apple's bad formatting conversion.
  4. Convert the message to plain text by using the keyboard shortcut (command + shift + t) in Mail.

Having to do it is annoying, but it takes only a few seconds.

I have also complained to Apple and encourage everyone else to do it too:

Yes, same issue here and it is driving me nuts. I now need to reply in html, so that the quoted text of the former correspondence stays readable. Before Ventura, I always used plain text, which was fine and clean. Not the complete returns were deleted by Apple Mail when you hit reply and have chosen to always answer in plain text.

This is a new issue and it worked perfectly with all former Apple Mail versions before Ventura.

It looks pretty good from here. Whoever originally sent it was using some kind of funky Microsoft hacks. Those things always cause problems. Just delete that code, put a couple of spaces in, and you should be good to go.

Also, the sender should have already included a plain text representation of the message. Perhaps their mail software didn't do that and Apple Mail had to figure it own on its own. If this is what happened, then Apple Mail really went above and beyond.
