Cannot message people not in my friends list from Facebook message link iPad mini 4

When I click on a persons profile, then click message in Facebook, it opens messenger without showing the person I am trying to message, no chat screen, a blank page on the right and my contacts on the left. This is happening on my wife’s iPad mini 4 as well that I just updated the iOS to the latest version. I have not updated mine yet. I have checked to make sure messenger and fb are running the latest versions. It works on my android Note 10 plus and on my wife’s iPhone 8, just not on either iPad mini v4????

I tried that, I have found that deleting messenger so Facebook cannot try to open messenger forces Facebook to use its built messaging which works fine. The issue is definitely an iPad mini 4 issue with messenger as I stated before it works fine on my android and my wife's iphone.
