Moving or copying an email from Inbox icloud to Inbox (local) fails. Why? And Time Machine doesn't work with Mail.

I somehow lost an email in my Inbox. I think I accidentally dragged it away or something. Anyway, I found it in the iCloud Inbox. So I tried to move it to Inbox. No dice. Copy. Nope. Via menu; via mouse; nothing! So I tried Time Machine. I selected the mail app. Clicked Enter Time Machine, and it opened into a Finder window! Opens the Mail app on Mojave. But now I'm on Monterey. Maybe they fixed it in Ventura? Oh, the computers seem synced somehow. Maybe I can move it in Mojave. Still, why doesn't anything above work?

Why doesn't this stuff work?!

Sometimes it seems like it never ends.

The way these apps work is you find the email(s) that you want, then export to your desktop. Then back in Apple mail you import those emails. They will show in the import folder at the bottom of your folders (left column). You can then move them out to any other folder you so desire. Hopefully you do not need to do this very often. You can always give feedback to Apple about the TM issue with mail.

Wow. Kinda lowers the value of TM. One of my favorite things about it is that it integrated with Mail and Photos and such. With a different backup app, wouldn't you just end up with a bunch of mail files in the Library folders? How would you get them back into Mail? Maybe I should switch to Outlook. I already have MS 365 for other reasons.

Really? They just dropped support for it? No, sir; I don't like it!

Got the email in the Inbox mailbox finally. Used a two-step copy.

Yes, but do they integrate with mail? IOW, will they insert the recovered message into the Mail database? I assume you're saying yes to that. If so, I might check them out.

Bummer. The main reasons I like Time Machine is that it's already on the Mac, ready to go, implementation or configuration is mostly easy, and it integrates with Mail and Photos. Did it break for Photos, too? Yep, looks like it did! Given its slowness and unreliability with restores, it may well be worth it to get a 3rd party program or two. Thanks for your help.
