The google search bar of Safari on High Sierra in my MBP has not been working well

Hello,

I have my MacBookPro (13-inch, mid-2012) on High Sierra and use Safari for Internet searches. For the last two days, the google search bar has not been working well. While trying to edit wrongly typed words or sentences, I could not operate the arrow keys to move among the letters of a word. In that case, the cursor automatically goes to the end of the sentence. Also, by clicking twice on a word or sentence, the word or sentence is not blocked. This problem does not occur when using the Safari search bar.

Either by restarting or putting the MBP off (and turning it on again) does not resolve the problem. I also tried to clear history and empty the caches the problem continues.

Anticipated thanks for your kind suggestions and help

... This problem does not occur when using the Safari search bar.

That tells you the behavior is isolated to Google's search page. Contact them for support: Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support.

Others have reported the same behavior: Search Bar - Apple Community. The behavior you describe seems to be the way Google wants it to work now.

That I don't know. I do know that you can edit the text entered in Safari's Search field as you wrote, but web pages themselves can behave any way the developer wants them to behave.

I don't use Chrome but you can also edit the text entered in Brave's Search field the same way you can using Safari.

In short it's either a web page feature, or a bug, depending on one's perspective. In either case it is something only the web page's developer can address.

If Google is your preferred Search Engine and you do not want to change it to a better one, at your option you might consider using Startpage:

https://www.startpage.com/

Startpage conducts a Google search but it removes all personally identifiable information prior to passing your entered search terms to Google. Read about it here: https://www.startpage.com/en/how-startpage-works/

You can edit the text you type in Startpage's Search field — I just checked.
