Migration from PC to mac

I am about to purchase a mini mac and want to use migration assistant to transfer data. I will have only one monitor available to do this but all the instructions on the process describe using two ie PC and Mac.

My question is this: One I start the migration process can i remove the HDMI cable from the PC and plug it into the mac, then reverse this process to confirm the verification code then reconnect to mac to complete the process

i would be grateful of any advice
