Screen Recording not supported in this app

I have films downloaded onto SkyGo app on iPad 2022. Trying to replay them on oldish Panasonic tv via HDMI cable and Belkin USB-C to HDMI TV. Message on screen - Screen Recording not supported in this app, please disable this to continue watching your programme - I’m in France. Have played ok in UK. I can play live Sky News on App. Any ideas? I’ve tried options in related discussions but nothing is working. I’m using iPad 10th Gen

The message that you see concerns the iPad Screen Recording feature. Broadcasters will not allow you to record the screen while playing-back material that may be copyright - or protected by broadcast-rights.

Ensure that you have turned off (or disabled) Screen Recording from the Control Centre.

In very simple terms, (1) many broadcasters Apps won’t allow you to play back downloaded high-definition (HD) content on an external display - but will allow you to stream a lower-definition version of the same content to the very same external display.

Some broadcast content is protected by copyright (2). There are technical measures that ensure that this content can only be played back if every component in the chain of hardware supports HDCP. If any component in the connection chain doesn’t support HDCP, the video portion of the broadcast will not display.

Not all monitors/TVs incorporate the special HDCP hardware - and for those don’t support HDCP, any copyright protected HD content cannot be played back.

In summary, you are very unlikely to have a technical fault - but are more likely to have encountered either an intended restriction to playback by the Broadcaster/App Developer (#1 above), or copyright protection enforced by hardware (#2 above), or a combination of both.

Perhps you are attempting connection to an HDTV or monitor. What you see isn’t a fault…

Many broadcasters restrict or disable playback of High Definition content to external displays - this being enforced by HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). When connected to an SD monitor/TV via HDMI, you may have both video and sound; when connected to an HD monitor/TV, you’ll not see any video.

Thanks for your answer. I have disabled this and still won’t work. I can play the video on iPad whilst connected via HDMI to tv but no picture appears but sound is coming out through tv. Message on black tv screen is - Playback not allowed on external displays. I did however manage to successfully play on a small Panasonic tv to test the function before leaving on holiday 🤷‍♀️
