When I power on my Macbook Air Model A1466 it displays a screen split down the middle, white on the left half and black on the right half. The machine is charging and I've tried rebooting into safe mode but nothing works.

Just to be clear, are you using Split View?

Even if one side is black, it could be an app with an empty window or an app that is not behaving properly. To rule out that possible cause, quit all open apps or close all open windows. If the menu does not appear use ⌘ Q repeatedly to close app open apps.

I am not using split view. When I boot the machine up it goes straight into the half white half black screen. There are no apps open.
