My Mac stopped recognizing my printer

All of a sudden my Mac won't recognize my printer. The other printer in the house still does.

Greetings!

There are a few things you can try to troubleshoot this issue. Before doing that, you can try to setup the printer through WPS, also check energy options if there are any (to exclude that printer go to Sleep), and make sure that main router is the same as previously, because sometimes after changing a router your printer could start receiving new IP address after every online/offline. Worth checking would be for Firewall options and VPN or proxy usage (those could also case the problem):

  1. Check the connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your Mac via USB cable, Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. Also, make sure that the printer is turned on and ready to print.
  2. Check the printer settings: Go to the Apple menu and select "System Preferences," then click on "Printers & Scanners." Check to see if your printer is listed there. If it is not, click the "+" button to add it. Make sure that the printer is set as the default printer.
  3. Restart your printer and Mac: Sometimes, simply restarting your printer and Mac can resolve the issue. Turn off both devices and unplug the printer from the power source for a few minutes. Then, plug the printer back in and turn it on, followed by turning on your Mac.
  4. Update printer drivers: Check for AppStore for updates, either for companion software (common for HP, especially printer+scanner systems)
  5. Reset the printing system: As a last resort, you can reset the printing system on your Mac. Go to "System Preferences," then "Printers & Scanners." Right-click on the printer list and select "Reset printing system." This will remove all printers from your Mac and you will need to add them back again.
