Photo app stuck in select mode (iOS 16.3.1)

My photo app gets stuck in select mode, but it also affects opening pictures in messages (it won’t open the picture). I resolved it for now by restarting/rebooting the iPad Pro, 12.9in, 3rd gen. Is there a better way to resolve the issue?
